Carve Wood Wiki Carve Wood Mythic vs Legendary
The Mythic axe, Legendary axe, and Mythic pet compared head-to-head on cash-per-hour and payoff time.
The Mythic tier sits at the top of every Carve Wood progression system on Roblox, but the comparison between a Mythic axe, a Legendary axe, and a Mythic pet is not as obvious as the names suggest. This page runs the cash-per-hour math for all three, the build they pair best with, and the upgrade order that pays back fastest for the average player.
Why the tier names are misleading
The word “Mythic” appears at the top of two different systems — the axe ladder and the pet system — but the two systems have nothing to do with each other. A Mythic axe is a top-tier chopping tool. A Mythic pet is a top-tier passive buff. The two stats do not overlap, and the value they add to a save is calculated differently.
The Legendary axe, by contrast, is one tier below the Mythic axe in the chopping ladder. It is the second-best axe in the game and is the upgrade target for most players who do not want to chase the Mythic tier.
Cash-per-hour numbers
The cash-per-hour contribution of each top-tier option, assuming a mid-game player with one rebirth and no other buffs:
- Legendary Ironwood Cleaver: +100 cash-per-hour versus the Epic Cedar Slasher. The full upgrade costs 48,000 cash, so the payback is roughly 480 hours of active play.
- Mythic axe (event-only drop): +140 cash-per-hour versus the Legendary Ironwood Cleaver. The axe cannot be bought directly; it drops from the Ancient pet event and is consumed on use, so the math is more like a temporary boost than a permanent upgrade.
- Mythic pet: +24% to total cash-per-hour, which works out to roughly +200 cash-per-hour for a mid-game player. The Mythic pet is permanent and stacks with every other buff.
The Mythic pet, despite being the cheapest to acquire (one Mythic Egg every 30 days from the Daily login rewards calendar), gives the biggest boost per hour of any single upgrade in the game.
Payback time
Payback time is the cost divided by the per-hour contribution:
- Legendary Ironwood Cleaver: 48,000 cash cost / 100 cash-per-hour = 480 hours of active play.
- Mythic pet: the egg costs 10,000 cash. The +24% boost on a 1,000 cash-per-hour player = 240 extra cash-per-hour. Payback in about 42 hours.
- Mythic axe (event drop): not buyable, so payback time does not apply. Treat the Mythic axe as a consumable boost, not an investment.
The Mythic pet is the only Mythic-tier item in the game that pays back faster than the Legendary Ironwood Cleaver. Players who are saving up for the Legendary axe should consider redirecting the cash into Mythic Eggs first, because the pet pays back in roughly one-tenth the time.
The build that pairs with each option
- Legendary Ironwood Cleaver. Pairs best with the full worker roster. The axe is chop-speed-locked, so the workers compound the chop-speed gain. The Best player builds page tags this as the speed-run whale build.
- Mythic axe (event drop). Pairs best with a build that already has the Legendary Ironwood Cleaver. The Mythic axe is a one-shot boost, so spend it during a high-multiplier window — typically a rebirth era or an event weekend. See the Events roadmap page for the timing.
- Mythic pet. Pairs with any build. The pet buff is universal and stacks with every other buff in the game.
The upgrade order that pays back fastest
For most players, the verified upgrade order is:
- Forest Egg → Mythic pet first. Cheapest Mythic-tier unlock, fastest payback.
- Tier-3 to Tier-4 axe (Rare Maple Maul → Epic Birchblade Pro). Pays back in roughly 63 hours and unlocks the tree-rarity bump needed for the next biome.
- Worker roster unlock. The full roster compounds across every session. See How to hire workers.
- Tier-4 to Tier-5 axe. Pays back in roughly 152 hours. Worth it once the workers are online.
- Mythic pet duplicates. Each new Mythic pet replaces a low-roll pet and adds another buff slot.
- Tier-5 to Tier-6 Legendary Ironwood Cleaver. Last because it has the longest payback of any upgrade in the game.
- Mythic axe (event drop). Only if the event timing lines up with a rebirth era.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is the Mythic pet better than the Mythic axe in Carve Wood?
Yes. The Mythic pet gives a permanent +24% cash-per-hour boost for 10,000 cash, which pays back in about 42 hours. The Mythic axe is a one-shot consumable that cannot be bought, so it is not a comparable investment.
Is the Legendary Ironwood Cleaver worth 48,000 cash?
Only if you plan to play for at least 480 hours with the full worker roster. Most players skip the Legendary axe and put the cash into Mythic Eggs and workers instead.
When should I spend the Mythic axe drop?
During a rebirth era or an event weekend, when the high-multiplier window compounds the boost. See the [Events roadmap](/guides/events-roadmap/) for the timing.
Can you own multiple Mythic pets?
Yes. There are six pet slots, and the Mythic pet can occupy one slot. The slots are filled in priority order, and the highest-rarity pets always sit in the highest-priority slot.
